What is Sin? I used to wonder what the word "sin," meant For I had a hunch it meant more than doing bad things. The Bible concordance has a definition "To miss the mark," As in missing the bull's-eye in the center of a target. And then I wondered, what is the center?
Perfection? Not doing bad things and doing good? And for many years, I aimed at that target Never once did I feel I scored a bulls eye. And then the understanding came, the center of the target Is God Himself Only He is perfection and anything less is sin.
But I can't really see Him He is a Spirit How can I aim at a target I can't see? Then I knew, that's why He sent Jesus! No, I can't see Him either But I can see Him in the Bible I can try to be like Him.
So I tried But I never hit the center of that target either. And then I realized, I've been using the wrong arrows! Self-effort. Bad arrows! Never will be accurate Made of the wrong stuff.
There is only one arrow that will hit the center The arrow of faith Made of the same stuff as Jesus' faith Guaranteed to hit the target every time.
And so I aim my faith arrow (And everybody has been given a faith arrow) At whatever revelation of Jesus The Holy Spirit gives at the moment. (And He is very creative at this)
All I have to do is Turn my thoughts in the direction of Jesus And I know when I hit the bulls eye. And it is wonderful No, He is wonderful!
So magnificent I never see Him exactly the same each time. But the more I look at Jesus The better I can see Him.
And I want to run and shout Aim your faith at Jesus! Don't look down at yourself Aim at Him.
He, Himself, is the perfection you seek. He is the only mark where you can aim and score A bulls eye Every time.
John 16:33 - "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
The will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot keep you. His power is ever-present in your life as His child. If I could have been there in the days of His flesh, I would have wanted to see Him walk across the sea and calm the waves. I can just see that kingly form with the wind in His hair, putting His foot steps on the sea, His garments billowing back. Smiling at the storm. When the disciples saw Him walking on the water what was their biggest problem? The water. Jesus, in essence, was saying, "What looks like is going to be over your head, is already under My feet."
What are some problems that are drowning you in fear, in discouragement, in sadness today? Give them to Jesus. Remember what is over your head is under His feet. |
